Introduction:
On December 15, 2024, the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) organized a one-day training program at Swabhiman Samiti’s training center in Uska Bazaar. The event was dedicated to educating volunteers on the conservation and monitoring of the Sarus crane, a significant yet vulnerable species.

Objectives:
The training aimed to:

1. Build awareness among volunteers about the importance of Sarus crane conservation.

2. Provide practical guidance on surveying and monitoring these birds in their natural habitat.

3. Enhance community engagement in local conservation efforts.

Participation and Activities:

Volunteer Training:
WTI’s Arshad Bhai led the session, equipping 12 volunteers from the Uska Bazaar development block with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute effectively to Sarus crane conservation initiatives.

Hands-On Guidance:
Volunteers were given a comprehensive overview of the Sarus crane’s habitat, behavior, and the challenges it faces. Practical demonstrations and interactive discussions ensured that participants left the training well-prepared for fieldwork.

Dignitaries and Contributors:

• The program was conducted by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), represented by Mr.Arshad, who brought years of experience and insight to the training session.

• Swabhiman Samiti, as the host organization, provided the venue and logistical support, further demonstrating its commitment to local environmental conservation efforts.

Impact:
The training successfully strengthened the capacity of local volunteers to participate in conservation surveys and activities. By raising awareness and building practical skills, this program has laid the groundwork for more effective protection of the Sarus crane and its habitat. It represents a meaningful step in empowering the community to take active roles in environmental preservation, aligning with Swabhiman Samiti’s broader mission of sustainable development and ecological awareness.
