Zarina Khatoon Honored by District Development Officer
Introduction:
On July 10, 2024, Zarina Khatoon, a volunteer from Uska Bazar block, was honored by District Development Officer (DDO) J.P. Kushwaha during the “Meri Kahani Meri Zubani” program organized by Piramal Foundation at the District Development Building Auditorium. The program recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to raising awareness about menstrual hygiene, re-enrolling dropout children in schools, and encouraging them to continue their education.
Background and Achievements:
- Zarina Khatoon, a resident of Khutwa village in Uska Bazar block, had to discontinue her education after completing class eight. During a meeting in her village, Mamata Verma, President of Swabhiman Samiti, learned about Zarina’s situation and convinced her parents to support her in continuing her education.
- Zarina not only resumed her studies but also took on the responsibility of raising awareness among adolescent girls about menstrual hygiene and the importance of continuing education.
- Despite the challenges, Zarina successfully completed her Intermediate exams this year, showcasing her dedication and resilience.
Recognition and Future Plans:
- Zarina was honored by J.P. Kushwaha, the District Development Officer, for her outstanding contributions to promoting menstrual hygiene and education. The DDO acknowledged her hard work and enthusiasm, stating that efforts will be made to appoint Zarina as a Brand Ambassador for Menstrual Hygiene given her exceptional dedication.
- In her address, Zarina expressed her determination to expand her awareness efforts beyond her village. She stated, “We were working within our village, but now we aim to spread awareness outside the village as well. If given the opportunity, I will also contribute at the district level.”
Conclusion:
Zarina’s journey from a school dropout to an empowered advocate for menstrual hygiene and education is truly inspiring. Her efforts in the Kishori Sashaktikaran Pariyojna (Adolescent Empowerment Project) run by Swabhiman Samiti have made a positive impact on many girls in her community. Her story highlights the importance of community support, education, and the empowerment of women and girls.
