School Chalo Abhiyan – 2011 in Kushinagar District

In 2011, Swabhiman Samiti successfully implemented the School Chalo Abhiyan (School Enrollment Campaign) in Kushinagar district, which aimed at increasing school enrollment, particularly among marginalized children and women. The initiative focused on ensuring that every child, regardless of geographical challenges, had access to quality education.

1. Objective of the Program:

The key objectives of the School Chalo Abhiyan were:

• To increase school enrollment among children, especially in rural and underserved areas.
• To ensure that marginalized children had access to formal education, overcoming barriers such as distance and logistical challenges.
• To empower women by providing them with the opportunity to complete their education, thereby improving their social and economic prospects.

2. Key Achievements in 2011:

• 21 Children Enrolled: The campaign successfully enrolled 21 children in an innovative school setup designed to bridge the gap between informal and formal education. Of these, 8 children transitioned into formal schools, which marks a significant achievement considering the challenges.
• Overcoming Geographical Barriers: One of the notable successes was the enrollment of 8 children in formal schools despite the geographical barrier of a river between the village and the school. The determination of the children and the community ensured that they reached the schools without being hindered by the river, demonstrating their strong commitment to education.
• Positive Community Response: The program received positive feedback from the community, with regular enrollment and a successful completion of the course duration. This indicates the program’s strong acceptance within the community and its effectiveness in reaching out to children who otherwise might have been left out of the formal education system.
• 58 Women Educated: A total of 58 women successfully completed their education course this year, marking a significant milestone in the empowerment of women. This initiative not only aimed at educating children but also at providing women with the tools and knowledge to contribute more actively to society and their families.
